The California Democratic Renters Council has endorsed Alex Mohajer for California State Senate in the 37th Senate District.
The Renters Council became a statewide chartered organization within the California Democratic Party in 2020, and was formed to act as a driving force in the development of a tenants’ rights and protections agenda within the Democratic Party for the benefit of the 18 million Californian renters.
Renters make up half of all Californians, but are underrepresented in the State Assembly and State Senate, with just a handful of renters among 120 state legislators.
Mohajer is running on a platform of economic dignity for working class families, which includes affordable housing and tenant protections.
“Our lack of affordable housing solutions and tenant protections is particularly affecting students, who are being displaced from housing near or on their campuses, and seniors, who are the fastest growing population of unhoused people in the state,” said Mohajer. “This is not sustainable. I am proud to earn the endorsement of the California Democratic Renters Council as I seek to advocate for renters and affordable housing solutions here in Orange County and across the state.”
Mohajer is calling for a multi-prong approach to our housing crisis that includes affordable housing development, mixed use and mixed density housing near transportation hubs, and sensible rent control measures and tenant protections.
