The Orange County Gay Men’s Chorus will award the former CA State Senate candidate at their annual Gala on Saturday, May 18th
IRVINE, CA – Men Alive, the Orange County Gay Men’s Chorus, has awarded former State Senate candidate and LGBTQ+ civic leader Alex Mohajer with the 2024 Rich Cook Community Bridge Award. Founded in 2001, Men Alive will be honoring Alex, providing an evening of entertainment, and raising funds for their crucial work at Harmony, their annual gala. The event is on Saturday, May 18 at 6pm in Anaheim. Mohajer announced this week that he will is for Irvine City Council in its newly drawn 2nd district.
Mohajer is also slated to sing at the event.
The Rich Cook Community Bridge Award recognizes distinguished members of the community who inform, bring healing, joy, friendship, and build bridges to the public at large. “[Alex Mohajer has] influenced and furthered our message of friendship and outreach, and [has] helped bridge the gap between and within the LGBTQ community and the greater world around us,” said Men Alive Executive Director Valerie Ousley. The award was presented last year to US Congresswoman Katie Porter.
Mohajer is the former President of the Stonewall Democrats, one of the nation’s oldest LGBTQ+ political advocacy organizations, and in 2024 he ran a robust campaign to become Orange County’s first openly gay legislator. His campaign earned nearly 20,000 votes and raised a quarter of a million dollars, earning national, statewide, and local endorsements. He is also an award-winning political journalist who won the 2018 Excellence in Journalism Award from the National Association of LGBTQ Journalists. In 2023, Queerty named him one of the 50 most inspirational LGBTQ+ voices in the nation. On May 14, he announced that he is for Irvine City Council in District 2.
