Statement Regarding State Senate District 37 Election Results

March 6, 20241

Yesterday, after a year on the campaign trail, we learned that our campaign will not advance past the primary election.

This is not the outcome we hoped for, and while I’m disappointed, I am so proud of the campaign we created together. To the many supporters, volunteers, family, and friends who believed in this mission and donated, hosted a party, knocked doors, made calls, or sent texts: I am humbled and forever grateful that you chose me to be your voice. We were bound together by a common purpose: the fight to get special interest money out of our politics and to speak to the heart of the issues everyday people face.

Although we did not win this election, that fight is not over. We have to fight to create a sustainable world for our children and an economy that works for everyone.

Dignity for everyone was at the heart of this campaign. So, too, was my Mom, who immigrated to this country with nothing and built a life for herself and her kids. To her, I can only express my lifelong admiration and gratitude, and if I gave voice to her story and to the countless other men and women with stories like hers, then it was all worth it.

I want to also congratulate Senator Josh Newman on his victory yesterday.

After a particularly disappointing loss, one of my personal heroes once said, “I’m not giving up, and neither should you.” To the people of the 37th district: you raised me, and gave me and my family so much. I am not done serving our community, and will always be a champion for you.

With gratitude,

Alex Mohajer
