IRVINE, CA — 38-year-old Irvine native, LGBTQ+ civic leader, and Democrat Alex Mohajer announced on Monday that the California Working Families Party has endorsed his campaign for California State Senate in Orange County’s 37th Senate District, the seat being vacated by outgoing Senator Dave Min.
“Alex Mohajer is the advocate and representative the residents of Senate District 37 need right now, embodying the voice of working families in Orange County,” said Working Families Party State Director Jane Kim. “He is the sole candidate in his race who has pledged to refuse corporate PAC or fossil fuels contributions. Beyond showcasing a deep understanding of the challenges faced by the working class and immigrant communities in Orange County, Alex offers tangible policy solutions for the multifaceted crises confronting our state.”
The new endorsement reflects critical support from one of the most prominent political advocacy organizations in the United States. The Working Families Party is the grassroots political advocacy wing of the multiracial working class, fighting for a nation that cares for all of us. Over the past twenty-five years, it has elected hundreds of progressive leaders at every level of government in states across the country.
“I am honored that CA Working Families Party has trusted me to be their voice in the state legislature,” said Mohajer in a statement. “I was born and raised in this community and this is personal to me. We need a new generation of leaders to take the mantle of elected office and really fight for the American promise that families like mine struggled and sacrificed for.”
Mohajer has centered his campaign on reforms to the Democratic Party as well as affordable housing, climate change, health care, mental health, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, and economic policies that lift up working-class families. He is also centering public safety and the need to solve crime at its root by tackling income inequality and lack of access to education, healthcare, and housing.
The campaign, which launched last March, has been building momentum and galvanizing voters ahead of the March 5th, 2024 Presidential Primary election. He has earned support from community groups, college students, and Democratic clubs across the County. Among his recent endorsements are Run for Something, Irvine Mayor Farrah Khan, Aliso Viejo Mayor Richard Hurt, Evolve California, Safer California, Sunrise Movement, Chispa, OC Action, CA Democratic Renters Council, Progressive Democrats of America – OC, Stonewall Democrats, College Democrats of Cal State Fullerton, Southern California Armenian Democrats, Harvey Milk Democratic Club, Iranian American Democrats of California, and he recently won straw polls at Irvine Democratic Club, Costa Mesa Democratic Club, Feel the Bern Democratic Club, and Laguna Woods Democratic Club, the largest Democratic club in Orange County.
