Alex Mohajer, Vice President of the Iranian American Democrats of California, gave a speech about the current and ongoing revolution in Iran before the Aliso Viejo City Council during its regular meeting on March 2nd.
“The movement for the liberation of oppressed people is intersectional and it is nonpartisan,” said Mohajer. “This is about more than the headscarf and this isn’t about Islam. The Iranian people yearn for self-determination. They yearn for choice. They yearn for democracy.”
Iran has been roiled by protests since the murder of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini last September by the Iranian so-called “morality police.” Amini was killed for having a few strands of her hair exposed, causing an outcry by the Iranian people who have been protesting the oppressive regime now for months. The Iranian diaspora in the United States has been activated as well, pushing for legislation like the Mahsa Act in the US Congress.
